Program Qualifiers

You must document your income eligibility or bring proof of participation in one of the following public assistance programs:

  • Free or Reduced Lunch*

  • Fuel Assistance (LIHEAP)

  • Head Start

  • Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8)

  • MassHealth

  • Pell Grants

  • Public Housing (e.g. Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, or Somerville Housing Authorities)

  • SSI/SSDI

  • WIC

Individuals who do not participate in any public assistance program may still qualify based on income.

*Applies only to residents outside of Boston, since free lunches are provided to all BPS students.

What to Bring?

You’ll need to document your participation in one of these programs, or demonstrate income within the program guidelines. These are the most common ways to document your eligibility:

Public Assistance ProgramProof

Current DTA letter OR log into the DTA virtual gateway website or app at the guided enrollment center

Free or Reduced Lunch

Notification letter from the school district

Fuel Assistance (LIHEAP)

Eligibility notice to household (LIHEAP participants receive this by mail)

Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8)

Paper voucher attached to your lease. Or request a copy from the housing authority that granted your voucher

MassHealth

Confirmation letter or MassHealth card

Pell Grants

Print out fromstudentloan.gov or log into your account at the guided enrollment location

Public Housing

Copy of your lease or verification letter

SNAP/EBT

SNAP card or current DTA letter

Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC)

Current DTA letter OR log into the DTA website or app at the guided enrollment location

WIC

WIC card or letter from the WIC office
